Drivers urged to check wheel alignment

21st April 2010

Cracks on the UK's roads have caused many motorists to claim on their car insurance, but tyre company ATS Euromaster is urging drivers who have come into heavy contact with a pothole to take advantage of its free front wheel alignment check.

Chris Hufflett, group operations director at ATS Euromaster, warned that incorrect alignment forces a vehicle's tyres to pull in opposite directions, which can result in the tyres wearing unevenly and more quickly.

He went on to say that it can also reduce fuel economy and seriously affect handling and safety.

"Given the bad state of our roads after a particularly harsh winter, we strongly recommend owners spend a few moments letting us check their front wheel alignment for free," Mr Hufflett added.

Back in February, GEM Motoring Assist (GEM) revealed that 50 per cent of drivers had had a crash or a near miss while swerving to avoid a pothole.
