Most drivers ignore running costs when buying a car

9th June 2010

Drivers may well search the internet for the cheapest car insurance deals, but only half of them consider running costs when buying their next car, research has revealed.

The study, commissioned Carmony.co.uk, also found that 22 per cent of Brits regretted buying their car soon after purchasing it because of how expensive it turned out to be to run.

"Motoring is becoming increasingly expensive and as the government prepares to deliver its emergency Budget, drivers are inevitably going to be hit hard," warned Alan Hazelhurst, managing director at Carmony.co.uk.

He went on to say, however, that there are a number of very simple changes that drivers can make to their habits which can make a real difference to how much they spend.

These include travelling light by avoid carrying any unnecessary weight in the car, not just when going on holiday but everyday.

Last month, Carmony.co.uk revealed that Britain is the biggest convertible vehicle market in Europe, regardless of our largely poor weather.
