Queen voted as 'most likely to repair'
26th November 2009
Car insurance customers have voted the Queen as the most trusted public figure to rescue them from a breakdown.
The surprising results of a survey of 2,000 people concerning the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme found that the current monarch was viewed as more likely to help fix a car than David Cameron or Gordon Brown.
"People may know that during the Second World War, the Queen trained to become a fully qualified mechanic," commented Nigel Beaven, spokesperson for the ATA scheme.
"However, with today's modern, high-tech cars, finding an automotive technician you know you can rely on can be a real challenge."
The survey also revealed that more than four in five (82 per cent) people did not know how to find out whether a mechanic was qualified to fix their car.
Motor Codes, a voluntary code of practice for professionals in the service and repair industry, recently received approval from government and industry bodies including the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
