Taking test twice makes better drivers, study finds

8th March 2010

A new report has suggested that car insurance customers who pass their driving test on a repeat exam may be safer on the roads than motorists who receive their licence first time.

Research by Continental Tyres shows that drivers who pass on the second test could be getting cheap car insurance when compared to those successful on the first attempt.

It claimed that second-time passers have fewer points on their licence and are less likely to suffer from road rage or be stopped by the police, which could encourage insurers to bring costs down.

"Second time passers appear to fare better, especially when it comes to driving safely and considerately. Perhaps this is down to concentrating more and taking into account different road conditions and other drivers," said Guy Frobisher, director of safety at Continental Tyres.

A new scheme called the Street Safe Initiative, which involves putting a layer of high-visibility asphalt underneath the surface of the road, making cracks and holes easier to see, could benefit car insurance customers, it was recently said.
