Toyota recalls vehicles over safety concerns

2nd February 2010

Car insurance customers who recently invested in a new Toyota may find that their vehicle is subject to the manufacturer's latest product recall, after it confirmed a plan to fix the accelerator pedals on eight models.

Toyota has confirmed a comprehensive fix for the accelerator pedals of certain releases of the AYGO, iQ, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Verso, Avensis and RAV4 models.

The carmaker says there is a risk that, in rare circumstances, the pedals of these models could stick, posing a danger to drivers and passengers, although no accidents resulting from this condition have yet been reported.

"At Toyota, we are fully committed to safety, we know what the problem is and how to fix it, so now our focus is to make that fix as quickly as possible," commented Tadashi Arashima, president and chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Europe.

"We will make the necessary checks to ensure future customers do not receive an affected vehicle."

Toyota recently announced the launch of the comprehensively restyled Auris 2010, which features Toyota Optimal Drive powertrains.
