ETA support higher parking charges

19th August 2008

The Environmental Transport Association (ETA) has claimed that most British motorists are currently undercharged for parking their cars.

This comes after the government attracted criticism this week, when the local government minister suggesting that councils should increase the cost of parking in town centres, in an effort to reduce congestion.

The ETA suggest that a well-thought through transport policy can have a positive environmental benefit, as it encourages people to walk and cycle more.

Andrew Davis, director at ETA, explained that in most cases parking is subsidised, as "the land ... would be worth more if it was used for … office space"

He said: "Local businesses often object to parking charges, but the car park that is constantly full because it is too cheap is not bringing custom to local shops."

The ETA is a campaign and lobby group that provides break down services for car insurance customers.ADNFCR-1784-ID-18739219-ADNFCR
