Formula One driver back government safety campaign

15th July 2008

Formula One driver David Coulthard has teamed up with the Driving Standards Agency to launch a new campaign to improve road safety.

The Scottish speedster recent announced his retirement from Formula One and revealed that he was now keen to encourage young people to be better and safer drivers and so help them keep their car insurance premiums down.

As a result, he is backing the government's campaign and four month nation-wide consultation to obtain thoughts about how driver testing and training could be improved to produce better drivers.

"I know how much young people enjoy the freedom that driving brings, but it is also a huge responsibility that must be taken seriously," the two-time Monaco Grand Prix winner commented.

"Changing the way that people are taught to drive, and making the test more real, can only be of benefit.

"We all use our roads in one way or another so it is important you register your view before the consultation closes."ADNFCR-1784-ID-18684859-ADNFCR
