Young male drivers "most likely to be uninsured"
14th November 2008
Young men are "most likely to be uninsured and unlicensed", according to a new report.
The data supplied by Advanced Driving, the IAM members' magazine, revealed that young, male drivers have a high risk of crashing.
According to the IAM, the report highlighted the importance of convincing young men that the only way to drive is by being fully licensed and insured.
Neil Greig, IAM motoring trust director, said: "We dont want to demonise young drivers, but research shows that uninsured drivers are typically young males living in urban areas 60 per cent of those convicted of uninsured driving are under 25, and half are under 20."
Mr Greig explained that novice drivers, particularly those under 20 were most at risk just after they have passed their driving test.
The statistics highlight the need to get young drivers car insurance.
As a result of the report, the IAM has proposed a ten point plan to improve road safety for all users.
Understanding the greatest risk is the first point, focusing on rural roads, starting at school, parental involvement and introducing low premiums for low risk learners are just some of their proposals.
The IAM is the UK's leading road safety charity.
