Car insurance customers 'do not know traffic light sequence'
1st June 2010
More than half of car insurance customers in the UK are unaware of the traffic light sequence, new research has revealed.
According to a survey by online car retailer Autoquake, just 48 per cent of drivers knew that the red light shows after the amber, which suggests many could be at risk of accidents or claims on their policies.
In addition, 39 per cent claimed that a single amber light meant that green would be shown next.
Dermot Halpin, chief executive of Autoquake.com, said the results were very surprising.
"It's amazing that so many drivers think an amber signal is about to change to green. Drivers should remember that an amber light means stop unless it is unsafe to do so," he added.
Last week, research by Micheldever Tyres found that more than 30 per cent of motorists in the UK are hitting the road with at least one illegal tyre.
