Code of practice 'would raise MOT standards'
2nd July 2009
MOT stations have been urged to sign a voluntary code of practice to ensure car insurance customers always get the best value for their money.
The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) is backing the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair, which is designed to raise standards across the industry.
Garages agreeing to the code pledge to maintain fair and honest services as well as invoices which match quotes, competent staff and a straightforward complaints procedure.
Alex Fiddes, chief operating officer for VOSA, said the scheme is a good way for garages to demonstrate their "commitment to customer service".
"This code is specifically aimed at providing reassurance to consumers and comfortably operates alongside other schemes - which can only help during what is clearly a challenging time for any business," he added.
Motor Codes Limited recently encouraged car insurance customers to give feedback about the service they have received from garages through an online customer survey.
