Hyundai-Kia unveils green plans

27th July 2009

Hyundai-Kia plans to bring a range of green vehicles to Europe as part of a £2 billion investment plan.

The group has claimed that it aims to become one of the world's top four manufacturers of low-emission vehicles by 2012, by which time it plans to introduce fuel cell vehicles to the Korean market.

Sun Yung Kim, president of Kia Motors Europe, said the firm already runs one of the most environmentally-friendly production plants at Zilina, in the Slovak Republic.

"We expect the demand for environmentally-friendly and low-emission vehicles will pick up strongly as the global market emerges from the current recession and we are determined to be ready to meet that demand from our customers," he commented.

Kia recently launched its first commercialised hybrid electric vehicle, the Forte Liquid Petroleum Injection Hybrid, on to the Korean market, although the firm has stated that it will not be available in the UK.
