Safety tips offered for long summer drives
24th July 2009
Car insurance customers planning long holiday journeys have been given some tips on safer motoring from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).
It follows news that in 2008 661 people were killed in road crashes between July and September alone, with a further 6,704 seriously injured.
The DSA's tips include switching off your mobile phone, taking 15-minute break after every two hours of driving, ensuring all passengers are wearing their seat belts and avoiding over-reliance on satellite navigation.
DSA chief examiner Trevor Wedge commented: "We all want to enjoy the summer holidays from the moment we leave the house.
"So, if you have a long drive ahead of you then have a look at our tips for safe summer driving to help get your holiday get off to the best possible start."
The DSA last winter advised newly-qualified car insurance customers to take the Pass Plus course in an effort to produce safer drivers.
