What Car? calls for scrappage scheme extension
21st September 2009
Car insurance customers have learned that What Car? is supporting industry calls for an extension to the scrappage scheme, pointing to the likelihood of significant price increases over the coming months.
Values of new cars have already risen by 9.5 per cent this year, while used car prices have shot up by 30 per cent, figures from the magazine have revealed.
Steve Fowler, editor of What Car?, said the scrappage scheme has been a "huge benefit" for car insurance customers and the industry in general, but the cash set aside for the initiative is due to run out in the next two months.
"Every car sold over £7,650 covers the £1,000 government incentive and puts money into the chancellor's coffers, so extending the scheme is likely to cost the government next to nothing, will help to boost the UK economy and speed our exit from recession," he commented.
The magazine recently revealed that the average motorist can save almost £350 per year with simple eco-driving techniques.
