Winter driving tips for young drivers
Winter can pose a challenge on the roads, especially for young drivers. It can be a beautiful time of year but ice, rain and weak light make driving more dangerous, and it takes care and experience to deal with the range of conditions. Here is a list of tips to help you drive safely during the winter season.
Before you go
Cold weather can exacerbate any problems with your car (especially with the battery) so get a tune up before you get caught out. Check the battery, the windshield wipers, brakes and defroster/heater carefully. Make sure you have at least half a tank of gas at all times, and keep basic supplies in your car in case of a blizzard. Snow tyres and chains are essential in extreme conditions. On the road
Make sure you drive according to the road and weather conditions. Remember that if you can't see well then you can't drive well either, so slow down, and use your lights and wipers. Watch out for any icy patches and allow extra time for every journey.
