007's car up for grabs

Thu, 12 Jan 2006

James Bond fans will be excited to hear that one of the original spy cars is coming up for auction.

Complete with machine guns and tyre slashers, the 1965 Aston Martin DB5, which was used in Goldfinger and Thunderball, both staring Sean Connery, is one of several 'celebrity' vehicles being sold off by a museum in Tennessee.

Some added Bond-style features include a bullet-proof rear screen, an oil slick ejector and a smoke screen system; features which the lucky winning bidder for the car may have to go some lengths to cover with adequate car insurance.

"The James Bond Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most famous cars in the world. It's just amazing," RM Auction co-founder Rob Myers told the Associated Press.

"This is by far and away the most popular car we have seen in our 26 years of hosting collector car auctions."

Also for sale at the RM Auction in Phoenix , Arizona, is Al Capone's 1928 Cadillac.
