British drivers going green

Mon, 27 Feb 2006

British drivers are increasingly heading down the road to greener driving, according to a new survey.

A leading insurer has uncovered that the number of hybrid vehicles on the UK roads has shot up by 74 per cent and one in six motorists is now considering switching to such a vehicle.

It seems many are following in the tyre tracks of big name celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, George Clooney and Orlando Bloom to head for environmentally friendly and cheaper motoring.

The rise in the popularity for such vehicles is also set to increase as figures show that there will be one billion hybrid vehicles on the world's roads in 15 years' time.

Hybrid engines work by using two sources of power, usually a petrol and electric engine. The battery is recharged by the petrol engine, which can also cut in to power the car.

The switch to a hybrid car could save you money on your fuel bills, while switching to cheaper car insurance could also give you some savings.
