Britney apologies for irresponsible behaviour on the road

Wed, 08 Feb 2006

Pop-diva Britney Spears has issued an official apology for driving with her four-month-old baby son on her lap.

The singer said that she had been forced into the situation while trying to protect Sean Preston from "aggressive" paparazzi, but it is unlikely that the star would have been covered by her car insurance policy should she have had a prang.

According to US mag People, Ms Spears had driven her SUV to a Starbucks in Malibu with her bodyguard in the passenger seat and her son strapped into a car seat in the back.

When her bodyguard left the vehicle to go and buy the drinks, Ms Spears claims that she was approached by photographers as she held her son on her lap.

Driving quickly away while still holding the baby, the 24-year-old later defended her behaviour, saying: "I was terrified the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my child in danger.

"I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

Ms Spears is now reportedly under investigation for child welfare allegations.
