Kiss drug-driving goodbye
Tue, 31 Jan 2006
A survey by London radio station Kiss 100FM has revealed that around 40 per cent of young drivers in the capital have driven while under the influence of drugs.
A further 57 per cent of those admitted they felt their driving had been impaired as a result and one in five said their driving had become "very impaired".
Experts believe that it is now time for car insurance companies and police forces to get tough with motorists who drive while under the influence of drugs, in the same way they do for drink-drivers.
The survey, which involved 2,000 young drivers, was used by the radio station to launch an awareness campaign to highlight the risks of drug-driving backed by the Metropolitan police.
Despite an eight per cent reduction in overall road deaths in the UK over the last few years, mortality rates among young drivers have risen by 12 per cent.
