Lorry crash kills six
Wed, 15 Feb 2006
A horrific crash between a minibus and a lorry in Lincolnshire has served to highlight the importance of taking out an adequate car insurance policy.
Six lives were claimed in the accident on the A52 near Grantham, with police describing the smash as one of the worst they had ever seen.
It is thought that the minibus driver was attempting to overtake two lorries on a single carriageway road before colliding head-on with a Hovis lorry travelling in the opposite direction. A fourth lorry then smashed into the back of the pile up.
Five people in the minibus, which was carrying migrant workers, were killed, as well as the Hovis lorry driver.
Chief Superintendent Dave Wheeler from the Lincolnshire police said: "It is a scene of carnage. It is a terrible blow to the families involved."
The crash comes just weeks after police recommended that foreign nationals should take advantage of free driving lessons in order to prevent such incidents and avoid having to make costly car insurance claims.
