Motorists urged to protect their no claims for Easter

Mon, 10 Apr 2006

Motorists are being urged to look after their no claims bonus after weather reports warn of cold spells throughout April.

Although some daffodils may be up and ready, it seems winter is not over yet and ice may still cause a problem for drivers on the road.

The warning comes as the number of car insurance claims rose last month, compared to the previous year, due to prolonged wintry conditions.

By failing to protect their no claims discount (NCD), drivers may be losing out on one of the greatest potential savings in the household – and car insurance experts are urging drivers to take extra care over the next few weeks.

New research has revealed billions of pounds are saved each year by drivers with more than four year's NCD, although this can be wiped out if not protected.

Drivers are also warned not to leave their keys in the ignition while trying to warm up their cars on frosty mornings, as opportunist thieves are stealing more and more vehicles this way.

And many car insurance firms will also not look kindly on a claim for theft if the keys were left in the ignition.
