Car Insurance
Police target car crime
Thu, 13 Jul 2006
It may be easier to get cheap car insurance in the regions of Leicestershire and Rutland in the future, with the local police force launching a massive clamp-down on car crime this month.
The officers have been employing a recently popular tactic of planting cars in crime hotspots in order to attract the would-be car thieves, and then simply catching them in the act.
Officers are hoping to catch both car thieves and those hoping to break in to cars in order to steal their contents including satellite navigation systems and car stereos.
So far it appears that the scheme is working, with 39 arrests already reported.
Speaking to the BBC, Superintendent Chris Rollings said that he was so far very pleased with the number of arrests, which he believed demonstrated the commitment of the police to tackle car crime.
"This serves as a warning to those people committing or thinking about committing vehicle crime," he added.
