Short term insurance a novelty

Herts Insurance Consultants (HIC) has launched its Short Period Policy for drivers not wishing to pay out for year-long insurance cover.
While many drivers may wish to benefit from the savings made through short-term car insurance policies, few insurers offer such an option.
HIC's new short-term policy has been designed for motorists who are thinking of selling or changing their cars in the near future, or for circumstances such as an impending move to another country.
"It's surprisingly difficult to get a short-term policy for your car," HIC's divisional director, Brian Rowell, told ITV Motoring.
"Most people want a year's cover but sometimes, for one reason or another, they only need insurance for a short period and end up paying a whole year's premium in desperation."
A one-month Short Period Policy from HIC works out at just a quarter of what insurers would pay for the same period of a 12-month policy.
