Suzuki predicts sales growth

Fri, 27 Jan 2006

Representatives from Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation have predicted that global car sales will rise this year by as much as ten per cent to a record 2.22 million units.

Robust demand for Suzuki's compact models including the Swift is likely to boost the company's sales, the car manufacturer believes, following an already healthy expansion throughout 2005. Global car sales for Suzuki last year topped two million units.

"With the exception of China, all regions have a backlog of orders for the Swift," Suzuki's chief executive officer in Japan, Osamu Suzuki, told Reuters.

"We're going to continue growing in overseas markets," he added.

Regionally, the automaker is expecting sales in China to jump by 38 per cent, European sales to rise by 17 per cent and South Asian sales by 16 per cent. It also expects modest growth in North America, augmented by the launch of the SX-4 compact sport utility vehicle later in the year.
