Convicted Driver

Driver banned after amassing 31 penalty points

Wed, 24 May 2006

Salesman Jeffrey Englander will be one motorists looking for a very good deal on his convicted driver car insurance later this year, after he was banned from driving for six months after amassing an incredible 31 points on his licence.

Magistrates normally issue a driving ban after 12 penalty point are incurred, however, Mr Englander claimed that he would suffer "exceptional hardship" if his licence was revoked when he was called before the courts earlier in the year.

The same defence did not work this time at Manchester magistrates, with a fine of £300 and costs of £150 added to the six month disqualification.

Mr Englander amassed the points after a series of speeding offences dating back to 2003, along with failing to produce car insurance documents and his driving licence at the request of police – the result of an earlier driving ban.

However, road safety campaigners are outraged to learn that after the six months have elapsed, Mr Englander will have a completely clean licence and will be able to take to the roads once more.

However, he will no doubt face a hefty bill next time he attempts to insure his car, as his record will force the cost of his convicted driver car insurance up dramatically.
