Convicted Driver
DVLA to crack down on registration documents
Wed, 03 Aug 2005
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has launched a campaign to ensure drivers have the correct registration documents.
The move follows the admission by the DVLA that almost a third of all British car registration documents are currently incorrect.
According to the Association of British Drivers (ABD), incorrect registrations are the result of the rising costs of driving on British roads with speed cameras, congestion charging and strict parking policies rather than a deliberate policy on the part of drivers.
ABD spokesman Nigel Humphries told Autocar: "With the current climate of serious security threats it is truly frightening that the government have allowed things to get to the stage where they cannot identify the owners of 32 per cent of cars on our roads."
"They have spent a fortune on cameras and number plate recognition systems which is totally wasted, only those who legally register their cars have anything to fear whilst terrorists and other criminals can move about the country undetected by such measures."
Convicted drivers are particularly well-advised to ensure their car registration documents are in order, if they want to maximise their chances of obtaining car insurance.
