Convicted Driver
Speedster banned for a year
Wed, 11 Jan 2006
A businessman who was caught speeding at 156mph has been banned for a 12 month period by a judge at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Ronald Klos, 37, was also caught talking on his mobile phone while driving his BMW at over twice the speed limit in May 2004.
Despite being cleared in June of last year because of a legal technicality, an appeal against the decision has resulted in Mr Klos being banned from the road until 2007 and fined £3,000; £2,500 for speeding and £500 for failing to provide police with sufficient information.
Chief Inspector Joe Swanston, head of road policing in Fife, said that Mr Klos's behaviour had demonstrated "blatant disregard for road safety".
Road safety campaigners welcomed the decision overturning the original acquittal, but said that Mr Klos should have been jailed for the offence.
Motorists with penalty points on their licences incurred through speeding offences can benefit from taking out specialist convicted driver insurance.
