Convicted Driver

Training courses may lower insurance costs

Tue, 15 Nov 2005

Proposed police training and awareness courses may lower convicted driver insurance premiums, it has been claimed.

The courses, which will be offered to drivers who only just break the speed limit instead of the standard £60 fine and three penalty points, could result in big savings for motorists.

According to Confused.com, drivers with one speeding conviction can experience increases in insurance costs of between five and seven per cent. Multiple convictions can lead to rises of up to 21 per cent for two convictions, and 40-52 per cent for three convictions.

"Given the option of a course instead of a fine and three points on a license, drivers would be mad to turn down the course," said Kate Armstrong from Confused.com.

The car insurance quote engine also said however, that not all insurers penalise drivers for speeding convictions. Convicted driver insurance premiums can also be lowered by shopping around for a policy which will provide the motorist with the best all-round deal.
