Cambridge youth faces parents – and the law

Fri, 16 Sep 2005

One young driver’s insurance hopes may be ending after he was caught taking his father’s car after a boozy night out.

Christopher Morgan-Shelbourne, 18, took his father’s car after drinking in a nearby Cambridge pub, according to the Cambridge Evening News.

But he later abandoned the car after hearing an explosion under the bonnet.

Police traced the car to his parents' house where the youngster was overheard discussing a “gear box that had blown up”.

By now the game was up. His breath test proved positive and after becoming abusive the youth was taken to the local police station. In court this week, Morgan-Shelbourne admitted charges of failing to provide the breath test, aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance or a licence.

He will be sentenced next month. He is unlikely to be getting young driver’s insurance for some time – not least because of parental wrath…
