Man fined for uninsured driving

Mon, 18 Jul 2005

A man from Distington has been fined for driving without a licence or car insurance.

Mark Weston, of Kilnside, told Whitehaven Magistrates Court last week that he had driven his recently-bought Peugeot 309 to visit his mother's grave, despite having no car insurance and no driving licence.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to both offences, but explained that he had driven the car in order to take a lawnmower to the churchyard to tend his mother's resting place.

Police stopped Mr Weston on his way to the churchyard, discovering that he was both uninsured and unlicenced.

The motorist's mother was killed two years ago in a car crash, the News and Star reports.
