Salesman mounts protest using car
Thu, 15 Sep 2005
A salesman from Scotland is putting his car insurance to the test by mounting a one-man protest in his car.
Ian Jackson, from North Meggetland, is using his Vauxhall Cavalier to try to stop construction vehicles from gaining access to a new housing development.
The 44-year-old sales representative was so frustrated by the dust and noise from the building site disrupting him and his neighbours that he decided to use his car to block an access road to Applecross' £50 million housing development.
"There's a lot less traffic now and less dirt on the road. It's put them out quite a bit," Mr Jackson told the Scotsman.
"I'll keep the car there as long as needs be and there's 140 households with cars to replace it if anything happens to mine. It's been effective and has put their noses out of joint."
Despite being forced to use an alternative access route, the managing director of Applecross Properties, Colin Cumberland, indicated that he and his workers "would have no hesitation" in moving Mr Jackson's car should it become a health and safety issue.
