Transport

'Danger road' to get warning signs

Thu, 13 Jul 2006

Officially one of the UK's most dangerous roads, the A53 running through Staffordshire is finally to receive its first set of warning signs following a spate of recent fatal accidents.

Staffordshire Highways is to invest £100,000 on new signs to warn drivers of the potential dangers on the road, the BBC reports.

The road is known for a series of blind corners, tight bends and hidden dips that can easily outwit drivers, particularly if young and inexperienced.

The road is listed on the AA's top ten most dangerous roads, and has been the scene of many fatal collisions within the past 12 months.

In order to prevent young motorists from being involved in further crashes on some of the county's more treacherous roads, road safety campaigners are advising newly qualified drivers to lower their driving speed on the roads, and ensure that they stay alert to any potential hazards.

No only may this save lives, it might also prevent an expensive claim on the driver's young driver car insurance policy.
