Boost for women LGV drivers

Tue, 09 Aug 2005

Scottish women considering a career as an LGV driver can take advantage of a new training scheme.

Skills for Logistics, supported by the Scottish Executive, is running a women only driver-training scheme to enable women to break into the traditionally male-dominated sphere.

Women aged 21 and over can obtain a category C driving licence or update their existing licence to include category C and E by following the programme, according to Skills for Logistics.

Ian Hertherington, chief executive of Skills for Logistics, said: "Following a truly successful pilot project aimed at finding out why women are reluctant to join the industry and addressing those reason, Skills for Logistics has created a training scheme that embraces the requirements of women."

"We are pleased to announce that an initial 40 places are available and look forward to seeing even more women driving LGVs in the future."

Women drivers, whether driving LGVs or conventional vehicles, can also take advantage of excellent women's car insurance deals.
