Women's Car Insurance
Female-only motor insurance launched
Fri, 14 Oct 2005
Specialist female motor insurer Sheilas Wheels has launched a women-only insurance product for female drivers.
According to research carried out by insuresupermarket.com, the policy could be more than £100 cheaper than other female-only insurers.
Offering breakdown cover from £21 a year, the policy also provides handbag and contents cover of £300 and a network of mechanics trained to follow a female-friendly code of practice.
"Typically, women-only insurers are not necessarily the great value they claim to be and certainly not necessarily cheaper than mainstream insurers," said Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket.com.
"However, in our research, Sheilas Wheels topped the table in one of the comparative scenarios we ran."
Female-only insurance policies can greatly benefit women drivers who believe that women motorists are safer on the road and wish to avoid insurance premiums pushed up by boy-racers and other irresponsible male drivers.
According to an independent survey, men are responsible for 97 per cent of all dangerous driving convictions, 94 per cent of all car accidents involving death or bodily harm and 85 per cent of all careless driving convictions.
