Women's Car Insurance

More women turn to trucking

Fri, 23 Jun 2006

With the relatively cheap cost of women's car insurance a testament to their superior ability in safe driving, many haulage companies now appear to be attempting to fill the gap left by a shortage of male drivers by appealing to females to put themselves forward.

The growing trend for more female truck drivers started in the US, where the large number of retiring older male drivers means that there is a continual shortage of long-haul truckers.

This has provided a great opportunity for women across the North American continent to quit their day jobs and start driving trucks for a living instead, allowing them to travel the country and make money at the same time.

Case in point is Deana Berry, who at 60 years old decided to start driving trucks after the death of her husband.

"It was the best decision I could have made," said Ms Berry, speaking to the Morning News.

"I have always liked to drive and this job makes me happy to wake up every day."

So perhaps soon the stereotypical image of a lorry driver in the UK will change, with more women truckers appearing here too.
