Top female drivers head for Club Formula Woman
Fri, 09 Sep 2005
Some of the UK's top female drivers will be going head-to-head in the Club Formula Woman racing championship.
Assessments will take place in October on the BBC Top Gear track in Dunsfold, Surrey to select the 100 shortlisted drivers, 16 of whom will go on to feature in an ITV programme.
This year's hopefuls include primary school teacher Jenny Heinzelmann, from Hertfordshire, who has earned her place in October's assessments, when drivers will compete in Caterham 7 vehicles.
"This is a very different challenge from anything I could get at work," Ms Heinzelmann told the Royston Crow.
"The series will be shown on television and will have coverage in the national press so it would be a dream to be part of something as big as this."
Formula Woman has made history this year by running the first ever women's international motor-racing series, the Formula Women Nations Cup.
Both female racing drivers and those who prefer to stay in the slow lane can benefit from excellent deals in women's car insurance.
