Women drivers warned of skin cancer risk
Fri, 30 Jun 2006
The lower cost of women's car insurance may demonstrate that women drivers are at less risk from collisions on the road, but health experts are now warning of another danger for women motorists the sun's harmful rays.
With the recent hot weather, cancer charities are warning women to be careful when driving convertibles with bare necks shoulders and backs, as cases of skin cancer resulting from too much sun exposure are on the increase in the UK.
Women are warned that the sun's rays can pose a serious risk to health even on a cloudy day, and convertible drivers should invest in a bottle of high protection sunscreen and a sun hat before taking off on a driving holiday or road trip.
Drivers are also warned that sunburn is more likely to happen whilst on the road, as the wind can disguise the true strength of the sun.
Skin cancer is currently the fastest growing form of cancer in the UK, with around 73,000 new cases and nearly 2,000 deaths reported every year.
