Women getting best car insurance deals

Wed, 06 Jul 2005

Women are reaping the benefits of the best deals on their car insurance, according to new research.

The survey from Sainsbury's Car Insurance found that the average female driver pays £412.44 a year to ensure her car, whilst the average male motorist forks out £503.98.

Across the gender divide, the average cost of car insurance for British drivers is £458.92 – but Sainsbury's Bank found that both men and women could stand to save money by going with the top 25 per cent of competitive insurers.

"The car insurance industry is very competitive, which is good news for motorists as they can save a lot of money by shopping around," said Joanne Mallon, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank.

"Sadly, despite this, one in five motorists obtains only one quote when they buy car insurance."

According to the research, motorists who opt for the most competitive insurers could save a collective £1.17 billion in premiums per year.
