Women warned over phony cops

Female drivers in Norfolk have been warned to be vigilant after two bogus policemen flagged down a woman on the outskirts of Norwich and tried to force her from her car.
Police say that the victim, who was driving along Gurney Road at around 10:30pm last Wednesday, was closely followed by a vehicle flashing its headlights. After stopping, the driver of the car approached the victim and, claiming to be a police officer, told her that her rear brake lights were broken.
Although the woman escaped unharmed despite the man becoming aggressive, the incident has sparked concern for the safety of other female motorists in the area.
"We would remind the public that only uniformed officers stop motor vehicles and genuine officers will always show their ID if requested," a spokesman for Norfolk police told the Norwich Evening News.
"When travelling alone, particularly at night, we advise motorists to take precautions preparing them for any eventuality," the spokesperson added.
Staff at local businesses were warned by email of the incident, which occurs four years after a 36 year old woman was forced to stop by another driver in the same area and sexually attacked.
Women drivers can also benefit from ensuring that documentation such as women's car insurance is in place.
