Vandals attack Rooney's car

Wed, 17 May 2006

Injured England footballing sensation Wayne Rooney looks likely to be making an expensive claim on his young driver car insurance this week, after the 19-year-old had cars owned by him and fiancée Coleen McLoughlin's family vandalised.

Hammers were used by a gang who smashed the windows of three cars, including Rooney's £26,000 VW Golf, bought only a week ago to complement the football star's already impressive range of motor vehicles.

The attack happened in the early hours of the morning, while the cars were all parked outside the McLoughlins' house.

Speaking to the Sun newspaper, father Tony McLoughlin called the attack "pure mindless vandalism", saying that it was not the first time that such an attack had happened.

Whether you are a millionaire footballer or not, insurance experts have urged car owners to ensure that they have adequate car insurance cover to guard against vandalism and theft, as well as collisions.

Some simple precautions can also help reduce the chances of vandalism, such as parking your car out of sight of the road, and no leaving valuable items on display.
