Pass Plus Cymru to reduce young drivers' car insurance

Mon, 05 Jun 2006

Young drivers in South Wales may soon benefit from cheaper car insurance after Cardiff Council's Road Safety unit announced the launch of Pass Plus Cymru.

Launched in conjunction with Road Safety Wales, MAC Driver Training and local authorities across Wales, it is hoped that Pass Plus Cymru will help to reduce the number of young drivers killed annually on Welsh roads.

Targeted at young recently qualified drivers, the scheme will not only help young drivers to gain additional experience behind the wheel, but will also reduce car insurance premiums.

Councillor Elgan Morgan, executive member for transportation, said: "The Pass Plus scheme for Cardiff will be spilt into six specially designed modules which cover driving around town, out of town, in all weathers, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways.

"Because the participants will be trained by a professional, they'll gain valuable extra experience and positive motoring skills that would otherwise take a long time to acquire."

Running from July 2006 until March 2007, attendees will have an eight hour in-car session with a Pass Plus-registered Approved Driving Instructor, preceded by a three-hour theory session.

Young, inexperienced often find car insurance premiums prohibitively expensive, making schemes that can dramatically lower car insurance premiums of immense value, in terms of both cheapness and driver safety.
