Young Driver
Research into teen drivers planned
Mon, 16 Jan 2006
The University of Iowa in the US has revealed plans to conduct a study of newly fledged teen drivers.
Video cameras will be installed in the cars of a number of young drivers from the Clear Creek Amana school district in order to assess the response and driving techniques of teenagers while on the road.
Newly licensed drivers will be filmed with two cameras positioned near the rear view mirror in order to monitor what's going on in front of the car as well as the drivers' actions.
Researchers will then use the recordings to determine what the drivers did right and what they got wrong. The aim of the research is to help improve the safety of teenage drivers on the road; the age category of motorists most likely to have an accident.
The study's initiators are also hoping to expand their research to an urban area to see how their results differ, reports WOITV.com.
Those looking to take out young driver car insurance policies will no doubt also be interested to learn the areas in which teen drivers can improve their driving techniques and work on enhancing road safety.
