Young Driver

Search for North Devon's best young driver

Thu, 23 Feb 2006

Next month young drivers will be given the chance to hone their skills and show off what they know in a bid to become the best young driver in north Devon.

The North Devon Young Driver Competition is open to drivers under the age of 25 and will be held at Exeter's Westpoint skidpan.

The competition is organised by the Advanced Motorists Group and local Rotary Clubs

Contestants will be tested on both practical skills and knowledge of the Highway Code.

Councillor Margaret Rogers, of Devon County, said: "Even though they have passed their driving test, young motorists remain extremely vulnerable as the annual collision figures clearly demonstrate.

"As well as drivers putting themselves forward for the competition, we are also appealing to parents to consider applying on behalf of their children. However competent and responsible they may think their children are behind the wheel, factors such as inexperience and over confidence contribute towards accidents and this type of training will help to develop skills."

The main prize on offer is a substantial discount on young driver car insurance.

The community is also set to win, as with more able young drivers it is hoped road accidents can be reduced.
