Sharp increase in insurance premiums
Thu, 20 Apr 2006
Comprehensive car insurance premiums have seen a large increase in recent months, with a 41 per cent increase over the last two years, according to the consumer watchdog Which?
The rise is blamed on the increased numbers of no-win no-fee claims being made, and an ever increasing number of uninsured drivers on Britain's roads.
Young drivers often bare the brunt of increases in the cost of car insurance, with young driver car insurance premiums being among the highest.
However, young drivers are advised that they can get a better deal on their insurance by going on a DVLA-approved Pass Plus course, which demonstrates your improved driving ability, making you less likely to have an accident and make an insurance claim.
Which also advises drivers on other ways to lower their insurance premiums, including getting a manufacturer-approved car alarm installed something that can reduce premiums by up to five per cent.
Other tips include ensuring that only regular drivers are named on the insurance policy, and exchanging your car for one with a smaller engine.
